Our client is looking for a Trainee (NDT) Technician based in Whangarei, Northland. This is a fantastic career opportunity for someone to become a qualified technician after 2-3 years training with highly sought-after skills.

Purpose of the Job

Non-destructive testing (NDT) technicians examine an object or material in a way that will not impair its usefulness using a range of science-based tests. Non-destructive testing can be applied to any material but has its greatest use in aerospace, power generation, oil and gas, petro-chemical, chemical and metal fabrication industries. Technician training generally involves some metallurgical or material experience and complements these industries.

Responsibilities and duties include:

With direction from Level 2 or Level 3 personnel

  • Set up NDT equipment
  • Perform the tests
  • Interpret and evaluate results according to applicable codes, standards, specifications, or procedures
  • Record and classify the results
  • Report the results

Skills & Experience

  • 6 months to 1-year relevant working experience in the Fabrication/Welding, or Engineering Industries highly desirable but not essential
  • Willing to travel locally and regionally to complete jobs at clients' sites
  • Ability to engage, build and maintain relationships both internal and external
  • Effective written and verbal communication skills
  • Advanced computer skills
  • A can-do attitude and willingness to learn
  • Candidates must have Full Class 1 Driver Licence to drive company vehicles
