About the Role:

We are seeking a commercially astute, people-focused General Manager (or Senior Operations Manager ready to step up) to lead our clients established B2B manufacturing operation. Reporting directly to the Board of Directors, you will oversee strategic direction, operational performance, and cultural leadership across production, sales, and administration.

You'll drive business growth, ensure safety and compliance, champion quality, and inspire a high-performing, future-ready team.

Our client is a proud Dunedin-based manufacturer with a turnover of $3-5 million and a close-knit team of 24.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Champion health, safety, and environmental compliance; promote a proactive risk management culture
  • Lead and manage day-to-day operations to meet production targets, quality standards, and budgeted profitability
  • Work closely with the Office Manager to oversee financial accounting and HR administration
  • Set and manage budgets, forecasts, and KPIs to support long-term sustainability and profitability
  • Drive continuous improvement and efficiency through process innovation and technology adoption
  • Lead and coach department managers to cultivate a high-performance, solutions-focused culture
  • Strengthen relationships with suppliers, customers, and regulatory stakeholders
  • Ensure compliance with relevant legislation, including WorkSafe and Dangerous Goods regulations
  • Identify and execute profit improvement opportunities (PIPs) and cost-control initiatives

About You:

You're an experienced leader with a track record of driving operational excellence and building strong, engaged teams. You bring a balance of strategic thinking, commercial acumen, and hands-on leadership.

You will bring:

  • Proven success in a senior leadership role (GM, Operations Manager, Business Manager or similar)
  • Experience leading in a manufacturing or production environment
  • Strong commercial and financial skills, including budgeting, forecasting, and P&L management
  • A passion for continuous improvement, innovation, and team development
  • Solid understanding of health & safety, quality, compliance, and environmental systems
  • A collaborative leadership style and a "roll up your sleeves" approach when needed

Desirable:

  • 5+ years' leadership experience in manufacturing
  • Tertiary qualification in Business, Management, Engineering or similar
  • Familiarity with Lean, or other continuous improvement frameworks
