Our client who is a very well established fishing and aquaculture business operating throughout NZ, they operate a modern and efficient salmon and mussel farming operations out of Stewart Island and are looking for some great people to join their current team and help them continue to deliver the best New Zealand seafood to their customers here and throughout the world.

About the role

This role involves a variety of different task throughout the farms there are the day-to-day activity is taking part in the harvest which largely involves removing ropes for the water, removing mussels from them and acking these for transport to the processing facility. But the role also involves a large amount of housekeeping and various other tasks to ensure the farms are in the absolute best condition possible. You will be paid for a minimum of an 8 hour day each day you work. The work is physically very demanding and require someone who is fit and strong to be successful.

Through this role you'll leave Bluff early on Sunday morning and return Thursday afternoon, during this time you will be provided fully equipped accommodation on Stewart Island with everything you might need. The work and the accommodation is isolated and you'll share a house with others from on the farm but if you need to be surrounded by lots of people this might not be for you.

Mussel farms are on the water and this is outdoor work, you will see some marvellous weather and some that is less ideal (sometimes all in the same day). Due to this experience working in the outdoors, or an affinity for the outdoors, is essential.

This is a temporary role however there is potential for it to become permanent for the right person.

The mussel farms are well established and there are robust processes and systems to ensure that should anything go wrong help is there to ensure the best outcomes.

Our successful applicant

To be successful in this role you'll need to be fit and able to follow instructions of the team around them, prior experience in aquaculture isn't essential however, a great attitude is. You'll be working and living with the other workers so we need people that are able to fit into a team well.

You will need to be able to get yourself Bluff early on Sunday morning so a drivers licence and car is needed.

Ideally you'll have prior work experience in the outdoors and if not you'll partake in outdoor activities in your free time, this isn't the best role to cut your teeth in if you're not used to being outside, especially in the winter.

In addition to the above you'll need the following to be successful;

- The ability to pass pre-employment checks including; drugs/alcohol/criminal history

- The right to work in New Zealand and relevant documentation to prove it

- The ability to lift up to 25kg's regularly
