Opening:

Our client, a large, well-established manufacturing workshop based in East Tamaki is expanding operations and introducing a dedicated night shift due to continued high workload. We are seeking an experienced Manual Lathe Operator who can work autonomously and consistently deliver high-quality aluminium machining in a busy production environment for a night shift role, 4:00pm - 12:00am. This is a temp-to-perm opportunity with stable hours.

What You'll Be Doing:

  • Setting up and operating capstan and turret lathes to manufacture precision aluminium components
  • Selecting tooling, cutting speeds, and feeds to achieve required tolerances
  • Reading and working from engineering drawings, job travellers, and work instructions
  • Measuring and inspecting components using verniers, micrometres, and gauges
  • Completing in-process and final quality checks and associated documentation
  • Identifying and resolving machining or quality issues independently
  • Operating other workshop machinery such as drills, milling machines, and presses as required
  • Carrying out basic machine maintenance and maintaining a clean, safe workspace

What You Need:

  • Proven experience operating capstan lathes and/or turret lathes
  • Experience machining aluminium only in a production or workshop environment
  • Ability to work autonomously with minimal supervision
  • Strong understanding of machining principles, tooling, and tolerances
  • Confident interpreting engineering drawings and specifications
  • High attention to detail and strong quality focus
  • Reliable, safety-conscious, and comfortable working night shift
