The Company

A vertically integrated company with multiple sites across New Zealand, our client is seeking an experienced or highly capable Nutritionist to work cohesively and in partnership within the Agribusiness division and with their external customers.

This is a key role that requires technical expertise, attention to detail and a considered approach to working together closely with the company's Procurement, Livestock, and the milling teams to deliver optimum production/feed performance at lowest conversion cost within given process and material constraints; while implementing changes as needed to improve production standards and increase efficiencies.

The Role

Reporting to the General Manager Agribusiness, the successful candidate will operate with a high degree of shared accountability on milling cost and livestock performance.

The role involves working with both internal and external customers to develop value-added relationships through technical support, customer service, and focussed livestock performance review.

Key responsibilities include:

• Maintaining up to date raw material nutrient specifications.
• Assessing the relative nutritional values of various feeds
• Jointly working with the Livestock team to recommend optimum feed formulations, analyse performance trends, and react where a nutritional component may be involved in an adverse trend.
• Formulation of feeds meeting livestock and feed milling production constraints within ingredient supply constraints, and maintenance of the integrity of the FORMAT files.
• Managing continuous improvement and quality assurance
• Provide Nutritional advice to external customers to formulate diets
• Contribute to the development of annual budgets and any subsequent reviews.
• Participate in industry events and committees as needed.

Skills & Experience

The ideal candidate will have 5-10 years' experience in commercial feed formulation, preferably in monogastric nutrition with a leaning for poultry both meat and eggs.

Key capability:

• Relevant tertiary qualification - degree in animal sciences, agriculture, nutrition or equivalent.
• Ability to build relationships both internally across functions and externally with customers.
• Well-developed problem solving with a critical eye for detail.
• Strong leadership and communication and a willingness to share ideas and mentor staff members.
• A commercial perspective supported by strategic agility and confidence to deal with challenging situations.
• Analytical, structured and computer literate, FORMAT skills will be an advantage.
