FAQs
How do I apply/register with AWF?
Simply search the jobs listed here on our website and apply online, or reach out to your closest AWF branch – it’s a good way for your local Recruitment Consultants to get an understanding of your skills and experience, and they may have upcoming roles that aren’t yet listed on our website.
What documents do I need to apply/register with AWF?
A CV/Resume – This helps us understand your skills and experience so that we can more quickly and easily match you to any appropriate roles we may have available. If you don’t have a CV or you’re not sure where to start, check out our blog here, which includes a handy template.
Proof of Eligibility to Work in NZ – Most of the roles we recruit require you to already be legally able to live and work in New Zealand. If you’re a New Zealand citizen, proof of eligibility could be legal ID like your passport, or if you’re from overseas, this could be your work visa.
Qualifications and Certifications – If you’re applying for a skilled role, you may also need to provide relevant certifications or tickets, but if so, our team will let you know once you apply or contact them directly.
What’s the recruitment process like at AWF?
Our recruitment process is primarily done online via a secure portal to protect your personal information. Here’s an overview:
Apply Online – Our team will be in touch as soon as possible.
Complete Your Profile – You’ll receive a secure link to set up your details through our onboarding system.
Interview or Phone Call – If your application is successful, one of our team will contact you for an in-person interview or call to find out a bit more about you, understand what you’re looking for and discuss the process from there. We'll chat about available roles, pay rates, locations, and hours to find the best fit for you.
Standard Checks – This includes reference checks as well as a drug and alcohol screen and a Ministry of Justice check. This is part of our standard process for all employees. Please speak to our team directly if you have any questions about this.
Induction – Before you start, you'll complete a Health & Safety induction and receive any required PPE and site-specific information.
Ongoing Support – Once you're on the job, your Consultant will stay in touch with regular check-ins and toolbox meetings to make sure you’re successful in your new role.
Can I still get a job with AWF if I have no experience?
We recruit a wide variety of jobs at different skill levels, including entry-level roles. So even if you don’t have any experience, we may still be able to help – the best place to start is by reaching out to your closest branch.
Do AWF sponsor or provide job offers for visas?
While AWF is an accredited employer, whether we can consider overseas applicants or not depends on the role and the client we're recruiting for. Unfortunately, most of the positions we recruit are only open to candidates who are already in New Zealand and legally entitled to work here.
We always specify in our job ads whether overseas applications are accepted, so be sure to check before applying – we wouldn’t want you spending your precious time applying for a role we can’t consider you for!
What kind of companies and industries does AWF recruit for?
We work with some of New Zealand’s leading employers across a wide range of industries, from civil and construction through to manufacturing and operations. Our clients range from small local businesses through to large, household names, and with 20 branches across the country, we recruit anywhere from the far North to the deep South. You can learn more about the key industries and roles we recruit for below.
When and how will I be paid by AWF?
We pay all our field employees weekly on a Wednesday. Each week you’ll fill in a timesheet, and once your hours are approved, you’ll be paid automatically. Easy! If you have a query about your pay, reach out to your AWF Consultant.
Does AWF take a cut of my pay?
No – what you earn goes directly to you, but this is a common misunderstanding, so here’s how it really works: businesses pay recruitment agencies for providing the service of finding people to fill their job vacancies. This fee is completely separate from the wage or hourly rate you earn.
Instead, this service fee is paid by the company and can cover a wide range of costs. At AWF, it covers things like the time required to take candidates through the recruitment process, induction, health and safety training, supplying PPE (personal protective equipment), processing payroll, and actively supporting you while you’re employed by us.
The pay rate or salary listed on your assignment confirmation or individual employment agreement is the amount that you receive when you get paid. The only deductions from this are the standard government requirements, like tax, personal KiwiSaver contributions, etc. which are the same in any job. You can find out more about this on the NZ Government employment website here.
Do I have to pay to get a job through AWF?
No, our job seekers services are completely free, which is the standard in New Zealand. Be careful of any recruitment agencies asking for a fee – it could be a scam.
Can I work for AWF if I have a criminal conviction?
We understand that life happens, and that some of the choices made in the past may not have been the right ones, or the ones that would be made now.
While most roles we recruit require a clean record, some clients we work with may consider employees with convictions, depending on the circumstances. If you’re concerned about a criminal conviction affecting your employment, the best thing to do is reach out to your closest branch directly to discuss your individual situation.
Do AWF do drug and alcohol screening?
Yes, and we do this for the safety of both our employees and everyone around them, especially since many of the roles and industries we recruit for are hands-on and require workers to be alert and attentive at all times.
